What do you do when you fail so miserably at something that people question your very manhood and ability to do your job? Go back to work and do your job and not pay any attention to the criticism from the small failure in a completely unrelated arena? No. You go on a talk show tour in order to prove that you still can't throw a baseball and in the process discredit yourself as a mayor by showing that your focus is not on the job. Next thing you know the mayor will be arrest for a DUI driving around a car full of vomiting Bungles.
